Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the Libraries of Central Washington University!  It is my great pleasure to work with the enthusiastic and expert faculty and staff at Brooks Library, Curriculum Library, and at the CWU Center locations in Lynnwood and Des Moines.

The libraries offer a wide range of services for our students, faculty, staff, and community.  We constantly assess and shape spaces for our users.  This past year, we emphasized building vital virtual services to meet the needs of online teaching and learning.

We care for our collections in print and electronic form in support of teaching, learning, and research.  Library collections are an interactive component of learning.

We recognize that to create the best possible conditions for learning, we need to consider the whole person.  We continue our anti-stress activities, and include leisure reading in our print and electronic collections.  We have translated many of our Finals Week traditions to meet the needs of virtual learning times.

Our libraries are on the front lines of the battle to make education more affordable and accessible. CWU librarians facilitate the creation of free online course materials, building on a Washington Council on Education grant in 2019 and adding several more courses in 2020.  This means that the students taking these classes will have high-quality, free texts.

Please think of our collections and programs in your giving plans.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, I’m looking forward to the work we’ll do in creating a robust virtual library and a revitalized web presence.

I would love to hear your feedback on our services and new ideas for us to try.

All the best,

Rebecca L. Lubas
