  • civic engagement and librarianship
New seminar LIS 398 this Spring

In 1913 Gandhi wrote “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him.”  Change is something we explore in LIS 398, Civic engagement & librarianship, a new seminar class this Spring.  Being part of an engaged community, learning how libraries are the cornerstone of democracy, and how librarianship is a profession protecting the people’s right to know.

This class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00-4:00 pm in Room 401B.  Join us to explore more about how libraries effect change.  Course # 35274. (3 credits)

  • Sign up for Archival Studies!

Archives play an important role in society. As repositories of a culture's unique documents, records and other materials, archives serve as tools for social accountability, the preservation and dissemination of historical memory, and the understanding of cultural, social and political forces in an increasingly digital and networked world.

LIS 411, Introduction to Archives, provides an introduction to the profession of archival studies. In addition to the history, development, and nature of work in the profession, the basics of collections management and development, intellectual control, preservation, conservation, and technological applications will be presented.

For more information, check Class Search or contact Julia Stringfellow.
