| History: | Beverly Heckart taught in the Department of History from 1967 to 2003. Professor Heckart was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1937. Her parents relocated to Baltimore, Maryland six months after her birth. She remained in Baltimore and attended public schools until 1949, when she was enrolled at Samuel Ready School for Girls. At seventeen she left Baltimore to attend Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. She graduated from Hood and taught in the public schools for two years before returning graduate school. In 1961 she was accepted in the history graduate program at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. While finishing her dissertation at Washington University, she accepted a position as Assistant Professor of History in September of 1967. The following year she received her Ph.D. Dr. Heckart retired from History Department at Central Washington University in 2003 as a full professor. |
| Contents: | The collection consists of photocopies of newspaper articles related to urban renewal projects in Ellensburg, Washington and the construction boom on the Central Washington University campus from 1965 to 1969. Included in the collection are photocopied correspondence from 1963 to 1969, research notes and note cards, reports from the Committee to Save Edison Hall and miscellaneous materials related to the development of the University during the mid-1960s. |
