History: History Day is a nationally recognized contest that started in 1979 that is held annually and was first introduced into Washington State in 1982. Initial participants in 1982 numbered around 125 and have risen to 3000 in 2006. Students participate by creating history “projects” which are assessed within the regions across the state, moving onto the state championship held here at Central Washington University since 1985. These winners move onto the national contest, held in Washington, DC.
Contents: Contains memos, news clippings, newsletters, handbooks, and other publications regarding Washington State History Day that highlight purpose, design, and student involvement with History Day on the campus of Central Washington University. The collection includes newspaper clippings and press releases of previous History Day contest winners within the state.
