| History: | James A. McGrath attended Central Washington College of Education (presently Central Washington University) from the summer of 1945 to the spring of 1948. During the 1950s, Mr. McGrath taught high school art in the State of Washington and at military bases in Europe. From 1962 to 1973 he served as Arts Director of the Santa Fe Institute of American Indian Arts. In 1973 he was hired as the Arts, Humanities and Intercultural Studies Coordinator for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Southeast Asia. Between 1988 and 1990, he served as the Dean of the Santa Fe Institute of American Indian Arts. Since 1986, Mr. McGrath sculpts and writes poetry at his adobe studio outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. |
| Contents: | The collection consists of photographic prints taken by James A. McGrath while a student at Central Washington College of Education (presently Central Washington University) from the summer of 1945 to the spring of 1948. The collection includes images of the campus, student activities, field trips, portraits and group pictures of class mates and miscellaneous photographs of the surrounding community. |
