History: The Diversity Education Center was established in 1993 to provide the campus community “with the opportunity to learn about diverse cultures and people”. The Center offers programs, workshops and other educational methods to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation for cultural differences and commonalities.
Contents: The files consist of records, reports and correspondence received and disseminated by the Associate Director, Karen Moawad, of the Diversity Education Center at Central Washington University from 1992 to 2002. The Associate Director’s files contain departmental assessments, quarterly reports, newsletters, staff meeting minutes, programming, budget and expenses and information on events sponsored by the Center. Included in the files are the People of Color Participation and Diversity Plan (1995), minority student and campus climate surveys (1194-1996), the meeting minutes of the Multicultural Alliance Committee (1997-1998) and video cassettes of dedication ceremonies for the Chief Owhi and Cesar Chavez rooms in the Samuelson Union Building.
