Guide to the University HousingResidence Hall Services—Kamola Hall Scrapbook
RG 019, Ser. 06-63 Processed and Listed by: Mari Knirck
Date: August, 2006
Date Span: 1965-1970 Size: 0.5 cubic feet. Number of Boxes: 1 half sized document case and 1 note card box. Type of material: Photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, etc. Physical condition: Good; content removed from original acidic scrapbook mounts. Arrangement: Arranged by creator. Historical or Biographical Sketch: Central Washington College completed the construction of Kamola Hall in October of 1911. A dining room addition was added in 1915 and was enlarged once again in 1919. The facility was originally used as a women’s dormitory. During the Second World War, Army Air Corps cadets used the dorms as barracks the dorms were used as a barracks while training at the college and nearby airfield. During the 1990s, it served as a dorm for international students from Asia. The building was completely remodeled in 2002 and 2003 and is currently a co-ed dormitory for honor students. Scope and Content Note: The collection contains the contents of a scrapbook created by female students of Kamola Hall. Included are approximately 300 Polaroid photographs, both in black and white and color, c. 1965-1970, with bulk dates spanning 1965-1967. It also includes preservation photocopies of original artwork which decorated the pages of the scrapbook, as well as newspaper clippings, flyers, programs and newsletters documenting events which took place on campus and in Kamola Hall from c.1965-1967. The box list documents the contents of the pages as they were found. Most of the photographs, etc. stayed secure to the mounts or picture corners, but there were many found loose among the pages. The processor numbered the photos on the page running from top to bottom and left to right. There are some instances where a caption was written missing a corresponding photo. These captions are noted in the box list, as well as instances where a loose photo was positively matched to a caption. The box list also notes the original location of the newspaper clippings, etc. Descriptions in quotes come directly from the scrapbook creator, while descriptions within brackets are those contributed by the processor for identification purposes. There were three photos from the early 1990s found loose in front of the scrapbook. With the provenance to these photos unknown, the processor removed them for future placement within contemporary scrapbook / image collections. Research Note: Open to the public.
