    Historical or Biographical Sketch: The Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs originated in 1937 as the Director of Public Service. Prior to that date the President of the school managed academic and faculty affairs. The Director of Public Service evolved into the Director of Instruction in 1942 then to the Dean of Instruction in 1954. From 1965 to 1969 the position was referred to as the Dean of Faculty. In 1970 the title changed to Vice President of Academic Affairs. The heading of Provost was added in 1989.

    Scope and Content Note: The collection consists of periodic reviews and self-studies of academic departments and programs at Central Washington University from 1965 to 1999. The files contain minutes and reports from the Accreditation Steering Committee, Curriculum Committee, and the Program Review and Evaluation Committee. Included are the correspondence and reports from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (1965-1992) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (1983-1989), along with the office records of Donald Schliesman, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies from 1982 to 1992.
