    Historical or Biographical Sketch: The Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs originated in 1937 as the Director of Public Service. Prior to that date the President of the school managed academic and faculty affairs. The Director of Public Service evolved into the Director of Instruction in 1942 then to the Dean of Instruction in 1954. From 1965 to 1969 the position was referred to as the Dean of Faculty. In 1970 the title changed to Vice President of Academic Affairs. The heading of Provost was added in 1989.

    Scope and Content Note: Collection consists of academic plans, program reviews, self-studies and financial and audit reports submitted to the Office of the Provost at Central Washington University from 1957 to 2001. Included in the collection are studies developed by the university for the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

    Research Note: Open to the public for educational research.
