Physical condition: Good. Arrangement: Arranged alphabetically by subject title of file. Historical or Biographical Sketch: Edward J. Harrington served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central Washington University from 1970 to 1989. The Dr. Harrington’s academic background began at Tufts University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1950. The following year, he attained a Master of Education degree in General Education. In 1955, he acquired his Ph.D. in Vertebrate Zoology from Cornell University. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Biology and Natural Science Department of San Jose State College later that same year. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1958 and full Professor in 1963. In 1964, Dr. Harrington was appointed as Associate Dean of the College of Science and in 1967 as Dean of Undergraduate Studies. He served Acting Dean of Academic Planning in 1969 and as Acting Academic Vice President until the summer of 1970. He was hired as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Central Washington State College in the fall of 1970. Dr. Harrington is currently retired and continues to reside in Ellensburg, Washington. Scope and Content Note: The collection consists of correspondence, notes, memorandums and committee meeting minutes, agendas and reports issued or received by the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central Washington University, Edward J. Harrington, from 1967 to 1992. Dr. Harrington’s papers contain official correspondence (1977-1981) and minutes, agendas and reports from the Deans’ Council (1967-1971), the Council of Academic Deans (1976-1988) and the Vice President’s Advisory Council (1971-1976). Included in his papers are records related to administrative retreats at Camp Field (1989-1992) and academic programs supported by the Central Washington University at the Tri-Cities University Center at Richland (1976-1990) and the Center for the Study of Migrant and Indian Education at Toppenish (1970-1971).
