What is the Orbis Cascade Alliance?
Orbis and Cascade, two successful academic library consortia, have merged to create the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a private & public collaborative venture serving faculty and students in Oregon and Washington. This alliance combines the services of both organizations to greatly expand the scholarly information made available to students, faculty, and staff.
Background information about the merger.- Members include 26 colleges, universities, and community colleges throughout Oregon and Washington.
- The new union catalog will include over 22 million books, sound recordings, films, maps and more.
- Faculty, staff and students at member institutions can request and borrow many materials through the catalog.
Who Can Use Summit?
Anyone may search Summit. Authorized users (current faculty, students, staff) of the member institutions can also request materials and have them delivered to their local library. CWU students, faculty and staff may also directly check out Summit items from any of the member libraries by showing CWU Connection cards and indicating visiting patron status from another member institution.
How Do I Get to Summit?
Begin your search in CATTRAX, CWU's online catalog. If you are unable to find a specific book through CATTRAX, click on the Repeat Search - Summit button next to the Search History button (See example below).
How Do I Request Library Materials from Summit?
Once you have located an item you want on your computer screen, you may order books by clicking on the button labeled REQUEST THIS ITEM and entering all of the requested information. You will first be promoted to enter your university affiliation, as illustrated below.
You MUST add an initial zero - (0) - at the beginning of your Connection Card ID Number in order to successfully log in!!
To confirm that your request was successful, check the option labeled View Your Patron Record available at the bottom of the CATTRAX screen, entering the same information as listed immediately above. From that screen you can view the progress of your request. You will also be notified by mail when the materials arrive.
How Do I Check Out Items from Summit?
Simply bring your CWU Connection card to the Library Circulation Desk and let us know you're here to pick up an item requested through Summit. We'll check out items in a similar way to usual CWU checkouts. Return Summit materials to the CWU Library Circulation Desk.
What are the Borrowing Policies for Summit items?
Borrowing policies include:- Must be current faculty, student, staff or retired faculty/staff at a member institution.
- Most items are checked out for 21 days with 1 renewal. Some non-book materials may be borrowed for 3 days, no renewal.
- Materials can be returned to any member library.
- Borrowers will be responsible for overdue fines and replacement costs for lost books.
