Central Washington University Music Library
Listening Area Circulation Policies

The following policies relate to the lending of music sound recordings by the CWU Music Library to valid users.

Borrowing Policies:

A Central Washington University ID, ("Connection Card"), or Library card must be presented when checking out Music Library sound recordings. These ID cards are the only accepted identification for borrowing music recordings. These checkouts are limited to CWU faculty and officially-designated Music Department Teaching Assistants. Users are responsible for all materials charged on the card.

Loan Periods:

The loan period for Music Library recordings is 90-days for CWU faculty. The loan period for Music Department Teaching Assistants is 30-days.

Borrowers should note the following:

  • Materials are subject to immediate recall at the request of another borrower after a minimum use period.
  • Materials are subject to immediate recall if they are needed for the Music Reserve Collection.
  • Materials are to be returned on the due date before the Library closes.
  • Music Reserves do not check out of the Library.
  • Most borrowers are subject to a limit of 25 checked out items at any time.
  • Anyone with excessive charges will have his or her circulation privileges suspended until the debt is cleared.

Service and Replacement Charges:

All borrowers are subject to charges. The date stamped in the item is the original notice of the due date. Failure to receive notices does not exempt borrowers from responsibility for charges. The following charges are incurred when items from the collection are not returned to the Library:

  • A $2.00 fine is assessed for each item that becomes eight days overdue.
  • Fines of $0.50 per item per day will be added to the initial $2.00 up to a maximum of $5.00.
  • A $7.00 per item processing fee and the item's replacement cost are assessed in addition to the $5.00 fine when materials become 28 days overdue.
  • If charged items are found and returned to the Library, replacement charges will be refunded. However, fines and processing fees will not be refunded even if the items are returned.
  • Fines and processing fees will not be waived unless the Library is found to have incorrectly assessed such charges.
  • If Music Reserve items are not returned within 48 hours of the due date and time, the borrower will be charged a processing fee of $12.00 plus the established replacement cost of the music sound recording.

All charges must be paid at the Cashier's Office in Barge Hall. University records may be held until such charges are cleared. Failure to comply with Library policy may result in the revocation of library borrowing privileges.

This policy is effective as of August 14, 2003
