Laptops
The Library has activated data jacks so that students, faculty, and staff may connect a personal laptop computer to the CWU network. Students also may check out a wireless or wired laptop for Library use.
Laptop Checkout
Laptops are available at Media Circulation for checkout and use in the Library for up to two (2) hours by currently enrolled CWU students only.
- Wireless configurations are available, but are limited to the Reference area on the first floor, and some areas above Reference on the second floor. Wireless laptops will have access to the Internet only, no student account access will be available.
- Wired configurations may be used throughout the Library in any active data jack and require a campus network login, and will provide access to your student account.
- Laptops available for checkout will have a battery life of approximately two hours. (Checkout laptops will be battery-only, no power cords will be supplied.)
- Print services will be available on both configurations, and will be directed to a printer in Media Circulation.

Personal Laptops
If you have an ethernet card in your laptop you may connect to resources by using a NetWare client, having full network connectivity, or simply plug in your laptop and use Internet resources.
In either case, however, you must first register your laptop with CTS so that your computer is recognized on the campus network. To register your laptop you need a current NetWare account. If you have a question or problem with registering your laptop, your NetWare account, or need a NetWare client installed on your computer, contact CTS (Computing and Telecommucation Services). A data connection is availabe at Media Circulation, on the first floor, for registering your personal laptop. You may also register your laptop in any active data jack in the Library.
To locate a data jack, click on the links to maps at the bottom of this page for locations. If a jack has a green dot, the jack will be available for use. If you are certain that your laptop is working properly, please report jacks that are not active to any service desk in the Library. Please include the entire jack number (ie. 11f-054) and the approximate location. We need that information to have the jack activated or repaired.
You will need to supply your own ethernet cable, the University Store and locations around town sell ethernet cables. A ten (10) to fifteen (15) foot cable should be adequate in most locations.
There are limited power outlets at these locations, so an extension cord, or good batteries, might be helpful.
